In 1909 Sonora Dodd, thought of a special day to celebrate Father’s day while listening to a Mother's day sermon. Since her father was born in June, she chose the month of June and celebrated the first father day in June 19, 1910.(more of history)Today, this special day of appreciation has been commercialized and turned into an economy “booster.” Statistics show that 72% of Americans make plans to celebrate Father’s Day; about 64% intend to buy Father’s cards; 36% buy a necktie while 4.6% plan an outing with dad. Hence, about $80 billion will be spent on fathers with the average cost of Father’s Day gift coming to $42.00. The above do not determine or show the role of a father, as God intends it to be. Scripture made it clear to us who the real father is. Being successful in life or business does not make somebody a real father. David was one of the greatest men in the bible, a man after God’s own heart and a successful king. Yet, he failed in his role as a father. Eli was a prophet in Israel, a man who made the mind of God known to His people but he still failed as a father 1sam 3:17. Having the mind of a father is not until a man has his own biological child. God might bring situations to a man’s ways that will require a fatherhood decision or wisdom. Remember the role that Mordecai played in Ester’s life. What therefore does fatherhood require? It requires the FEAR of the Lord! Ps. 128:1-4 shows us the benefits or rewards that come with the fear the Lord. A father who fears the Lord has enough wisdom to know that His children must be taught the ways and fears of the Lord and love his wife. My
prayer today is that, God is his mercy and faithfulness will make you the
FATHER He has destined you to be from the foundation of the earth.
